The village Buševec
settled in fields of Turopolje and is on exact route from Zagreb
to Sisak, at approximately 25 kilometers from Zagreb. This is
a village of 1000 residents. History says that Buševec probably
inherited the name from aristocratic family Buševec which was
the most prominent family in Buševec till 16-th century, along
with Turhan family. Landless peasants who were under those aristocratic
families and had estates nearby lived in seven different peasant
rural region.
Due to frequent Turkish breakthroughs on
this territory a lot of Turopolje families and estates were
destroyed. In the year 1592, ruler from Bosnia known as Hasan-pasha
devastated Turopolje and led 35.000 people to slavery, but
a lot of Turopolje families were uprooted and entire villages
were gone. That is a period in history when aristocratic families
Buševec and Turhan disappeared.
Ever since 17th century there were new
aristocratic families in Buševec and most of them still live
in this village but it isn't a known historical fact where
are the origins of these families. New residents built beautiful
wooden chapel of Saint Apostle but it was torn down and or
burnt so it resurrected in the year 1768 and as such stands
on the same place today. In the early 20th century chapel
was for unknown reasons renamed to chapel of Saint John Baptist.
Voluntary fire-department was founded in
the year 1900 due to frequent fires. In the year 1908 village
got its five-year long elementary school, public library in
the year 1912, "Seljačka sloga" was founded in 1920
and sports club "Seljak" (today "Polet")
began with its activities in 1934.
